The Last Days

W. J. Grier on the last days: “This expression is very often used of the whole Gospel age in which we now live. ‘God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son’ (Hebrews 1:2). See also Acts 2:17, James 5:3; I Peter 1:20 … In other words, the incarnation of Christ has introduced the final period in the world’s history. Commenting on the words, ‘It is the last time’ (I John 2:18), Rev. J. M. Ghysels remarks, ‘It is not open to doubt that, according to Scripture, with the ascension of Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit, the last period of the world’s history has begun. This present period in which we live is the last on the divine programme.’ If this present period is the last, then there remains nothing but the eternal state; there is no place left for a millennial age between” (The Momentous Event [Belfast: Evangelical Book Shop, 1952], p. 40).
