Quote to Consider:
John Eadie on Colossian 1:19: “… every grace, as it is needed, and when it is needed, in every variety of … operation; every grace, either to nurse the babe or sustain the perfect man, to excite the new life or to foster it, to give pardon and the sense of it, faith and the full assurance of it, purity and the felt possession of it; every blessing, in short, for health or sickness, for duty or trial, for life or death, for body or soul, for earth or heaven, for time or eternity, is wrapt up in that fulness which dwells in Christ.”
Announcements:
The Beacon Lights, which contains a good article on “Modesty,” is available for subscribers.
More chairs (due to the increase in attendance) and various accessories (e.g., amplifier, carpet to be set out) mean that it takes longer to prepare the hall on Sunday mornings for our worship services. Ivan Reid requires help. Volunteers should approach a member of the Steering Committee.
As a charity, we receive an additional 28% (or so) on all donations (weekly or one-off) from taxpayers registered as “Gift Aid.” It is very easy to set this up. Please ask Ivan Reid, our treasurer, about it.
Philip Rainey is organizing a congregational outing to Rathlin Island on Saturday, 26 June. We plan (DV) to cross on the 10 AM ferry from Ballycastle, and once on the island walk 3 miles from the harbour to the RSPB Sanctuary at the West Lighthouse. (If you prefer not to walk, a minibus can take you there.) Group rate ferry prices are £7.20/adult and £3.60/age 5-18. You should bring a pack lunch, waterproof jacket, sweater, and walking boots or shoes. A sign-up sheet for the trip is on the back table today. Philip hopes to book the ferry this week, so sign up today!
Rev. & Mary Stewart had a good trip to south Wales this past Friday. The speech entitled “The Last Days” was well attended and well received.
The Reformed Witness Hour next Lord’s Day, 13 June, (8:30-9:00 AM, on Gospel 846MW) is “Resolving Conflicts in Marriage, Part 1” (I Cor. 13).
Last week’s offerings: £552.80, 50 Euro. Donations: £25 (pamphlets), £140 (tapes), £31 (S. Wales).
PRC News: Synod meets this week in Hull, Iowa. The agenda is “comparatively light” this year and there are no graduating seminary students to examine, so they hope to conclude synod by the end of this week. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom to the delegates and bless the decisions which are made. Hudsonville PRC called Rev. Slopsema (First, MI). Rev. Terpstra (Holland, MI) is considering the call from Faith PRC. Rev. Haak (Bethel, IL) is considering the call from the First PRC in Edmonton. Doon PRC’s first trio is Rev. Bruinsma (Kalamazoo, MI), Rev. Eriks (Loveland, CO), and Rev. Slopsema.
