Quote to Consider:
Randall Price: “As the Ark travelled and camped with the Israelites, its usual position was in the middle of the assembled tribes (Num. 2:17; 10:14-28). This was to remind Israel that God was fulfilling His promise to dwell in their midst. Joshua 3:3-4 tells us that at the first crossing of the Jordan, the Ark was repositioned at the head of the tribes, and all Israel was commanded to follow it. The reason given in the text is ‘that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.’ Thus, the Ark provided both divine guidance and powerful protection for the Israelites. It served as a focus for their faith in an unknown and untried place. God was not to be in the background of their lives but always in the forefront—the One who must be followed by faith when passing through the deep waters of life” (The Ark of the Covenant, p. 61).
